Bringing the Marvel Universe Downunder
In 2023, we helped launch the Marvel Universe in New Zealand, as it hosted the global premiere of Marvel: Earth’s Mightiest Exhibition.
Nearly 85 years after Marvel’s first comic was published, New Zealand’s film capital hosted the global premiere of Marvel: Earth’s Mightiest Exhibition.
Opening in Wellington in December 2023, ‘the most comprehensive exhibition of art, artefacts and interactive photo opportunities ever displayed in the Southern Hemisphere’ took old and new fans into Marvel’s incredible universe in new and unexpected ways.
Featuring Marvel’s most recognised and well-loved Super Heroes and Super Villians - including the Hulk, Spider-Man, Venom, Ghost Rider and Doctor Strange, some of the rarest Marvel artefacts were also on display, including an original copy of the first Marvel Comics #1, published in 1939.
Thorn PR led media engagement throughout the exhibit’s four-month run. This involved our team working closely with exhibit curators and Marvel experts Ben Saunders and Patrick Reed, Marvel and Disney teams, WellingtonNZ, the Wellington City Council, and Tākina, the Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Wellington has incredibly strong, influential and award-winning ties into the Marvel Universe through Wētā FX, so we leaned into this award-winning relationship to find and tell new and engaging stories about Wellington’s impact on the Marvel Universe throughout the four months Marvel: Earth’s Mightiest Exhibition delighted and entertained fans. This appraoch secured more than 25 in-depth positive stories about the exhibition across New Zealand’s major media outlets and into Australia.
An award-winning broadcaster, Jacinda began her career 20 years ago in radio – working as a broadcast journalist for Newstalk ZB and a breakfast radio host for the Mediaworks network.
Inherently curious and driven, she then spent more than a decade in politics, in media and strategy roles, advising Ministers and working in Prime Minister John Key’s office.
Jacinda established Thorn PR in 2019, building the PR agency she had always dreamed of creating – one that does things differently, has no bullshit and puts client success at the heart of everything it does.
